Hip-hop twosome Madcon are platinum-selling stars in their inhabitant Norway, however Norwegian hip-hop not being especially appear one outside its native soil. It is perhaps that you are not yet familiar with Tshawe ‘Kapricon’ Baqwa and Yosef ‘Critical’ Wolde-Mariam. Both born in Norway, their latest album, So Dark The Con Of Man, is a peculiar hodge-podge of genres, blending live instrumentation, female vocals and dance rythms in a manner more evocative of the mixed approach of Outkast or Gnarls Barkley than the steelier beats of US rap. Or, as the pair plant it: ”The manner we do things is slightly untraditional/The manner we do things make your mo-f***ing jaws drop”. Jaws might, in fact, low at the starting Beggin’, a cover of the Four Seasons original rephrased by production team 3Elementz that watches Kapricon sing the original Franki Valli hook while Critical adds: Hear it once and like Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, you will not be able to vibrate it.
