Lo fi is a smooth wrap for lo ability, but not where The Dodos have major concerned. Their sound may be naked with only some adornments to the basic blend of vocal, guitar and drum. But the San Francisco duo more than adjusts by musical ability and by putting the songs full of rhythmic and melodic shakes. Known on the surface, Visiter discloses its hidden depths.

It starts with a red herring, the surprisingly conventional indie of The Walking, built on pastoral strum and sugary female backing vocal. It’s the surge of tribal drums introducing second track, Red And Purple, which hints at where the Dodos are truly heading, Logan Kroeber’s percussion fusing with Meric Long’s agile, lovely strange voice to produce something unexpected.
